Groblje Orlovaca

The groblje orlovaca (Serbian Cyrillic: orlovacha) is one of the largest cemeteries in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. It is situated in the southern part of the city's urban area and alongside Ibarska magistrala, on the border between the municipalities of Cukarica and Rakovica. It is surrounded by the neighborhoods of Zeleznik (west) and Petlovo Brdo (north).

During its existence, the groblje orlovaca has been the most prominent monument to culture in Belgrade. The cemetery is the holder of several national and international awards, and it has a significant impact on the development of cultural heritage in the region. It is also a place of pilgrimage for many religious communities.

In the past, the groblje orlovaca was known for its eagles and other birds, and it is not surprising that the name of the field translates to "eagle place." The cemetery has been the resting place of several important people from the world of literature, art and science, such as the writer Milos Forman, composer Branko Oblak, painter Jovan Nikolovski, poet Svetla Dimitrijevich Harisa and journalist Dragan ikovi.

During the war, the groblje Groblje orlovaca  became a center of resistance against the fascist occupation of Yugoslavia and was renowned for its bravery and sacrifice. Today, the groblje is a popular tourist destination and it is home to a number of interesting historical sites, such as the sanatorium and the former hospital building. It is also a popular location for outdoor concerts, including the annual Orlovaca Fest. It is easily accessible with the public transportation lines, buses numbers 531 and 532 (weekends only) and bus 533 during the week.
